A great thought to maintaining downtime and avoiding procrastination:

Balance

Downtime ought to be all the time one doesn’t need to accomplish all one’s tasks. Not having too many tasks to still have downtime is the secret to a balanced life, I think.

As such downtime cannot be too much: it can be too little if it is not enough to give you the rest you need.

Downtime is procrastination when it is taken unplanned.

Downtime is procrastination when it gets extended into acting time.



My reply:

It seems like I’m leading my life in a more constructive way these past few months. Just as you say above.

Now if I can maintain that habit.

One definitely needs down time. Being a laserbeam on a project leads to serious burnout. Too much dormant time, then angst/guilt over not accomplishing anything, then procrastination.

A bad cycle I’m working hard to break.
