Am I the only one who wants a Smart Car?

It's a two-seater and quite small. I first read about it in WIRED magazine a couple of years ago. The Smart Car ForTwo is finally making it to the US beginning 2008.

Many people are critical of it, because they say it's too dangerous ... on the roads alongside SUVs and Semis.

However, that same argument can be made for the MiniCooper, VW Golf (which we have) and the Ford Focus. So I'm not entirely buying it.

O.K., it might be rough living with 50-horsepower, but I need to slow down.

Even if we were to get our name on the waiting list, there are more than 20,000 people on the list and rumor has it that only 16,000 ForTwos are being shipped to the U.S.

danger? whatever. the smart car's frame is made of steel and won't crumple -- it'll bounce right off whatever it hits.

if we were in the market for a second car we'd totally consider one of these.

"the smart car's frame is made of steel and won't crumple -- it'll bounce right off whatever it hits."

That's the beauty of this car.

I didn't want to go into all the mumbo jumbo of it ... nevertheless ... the safety rebuttle (sp?) includes comparisons to those small cars i named above.

regarding automobiles: we really need to get a small pick-up for Mr. F ... we donated his heep nine or so months ago. if only he would decide on what he wants. :)

peace, friend.

There are a lot of them in Toronto. A friend of mine just bought one and loves it. Apparently they're very safe, extremely easy to drive in the city, and get excellent gas mileage. If I were ever going to buy a car, that's the only kind I'd even consider.

I'd love to have one of those. As long as a carseat fit in the passenger seat, I'd be fine. If we all had to travel somewhere together, then we'd have to take our shameful horrible gas-guzzling truck or the Jeep.

To have this would mean I'd give up my Volvo finally, and that would break my heart.
