To John Mellencamp via his son, Speck

My comment on in Facebook group, which Speck Mellencamp started to get his dad to quit smoking.

(To find FB page, search: "1,000,000 people" "Mellencamp.")

"I love the name, Speck. Seriously.

In 1984, my dad died of lung cancer. Two years before his death, he said he didn't want to quit smoking because he enjoyed it, and he wanted to enjoy his life. Nine months before he died, when he was in great pain and was spitting up blood, he would tell other smokers to "... stop now because you don't want to go through this horrific pain and suffering which I'm going through now."

My mother died of lung cancer (and COPD) in 2006. She hadn't smoked any cigarettes since 1977 or 1978. In 2003, she was diagnosed with emphysema. So much for the myth that if you quit smoking, your lungs will completely recover from all that inhaled nicotine."
