to break or not to break ...

... "br" "/br" between carrots on autopilot or manually fed experiment.

i am creating this entry using lj's online posting feature, which i've used all the time until about a week or two ago.

the experiment has already begun.

there should be a space between each of these sentences above.

do you see them?

how about now?

or now?

ok, there should be four spaces above this sentence.

lj's online posting preview mode is indicating no spaces at all.

i've got an empty shopping cart. (oh, i added html coding to create the space above these last two sentences. Looks more like two spaces, doesn't it?)

it is the lj style template. they created this template to have indents, like in a traditional book. They don't want you to create spaces between 'graphs. See if I keep going on with this paragraph, you will see the first line of the paragraph is indented. That wasn't meant to be an insult about the template creator not wanting us users/adopters to have spaces between 'graphs. They probably didn't believe there would be a want for spaces IF the first line is indented.

but they don't know granola jones.

in fact, the indented first line only happens when the space bar is used.
you see there is no indent for this second line, and i purposely did not add a space between these two sentences.

this shopping cart isn't empty. just different.

I do see all the line breaks and void lines you describe when I view the entry on my friends page, which is in the S1 Generator style, but I don't see them when I view the entry in your journal. But I see the indented paragraphs only when I view the entry in your journal, not on my friends page.

True.

You have to go to my recents' page to see what I'm talking about.

If you go to my recent entry (about painting) there is a sentence which appears in italics. I added the h2 around it to make it big, but this lj style template won't show it.

damn.

The style you're using overrides the font size of <h2> using CSS (thusly):

body, td, h2, .caption, h1, h3 {
font-family: "Times New Roman", "Times", serif;

font-size: 12pt;
line-height: 15pt;
font-weight: normal;
}

And then makes it italic:

h2, .noul, .ult {
font-style: italic;
margin: 0px;
}

And this appears be what's messing up your spaces:

.body, .bodyl, .bodyns {
text-align: justify;
}

text-align:justify aligns both margins and pads the text with spaces to make up for varying line lengths. Justify is familiar from newspaper columns and generally makes for easier reading with larger amounts of text.

You could override all that stuff if you have access to the source code the style is written with. That's how I tweaked my page.

yes. i was actually attempting to do this yesterday ... though really had more pressing issues to work on ... procrastination's great ... anyway ... i'm still not well-versed in coding and was having difficulty figuring out where i should pick up the code and end it from the source page ... using the "unearthed" style template. My focus was on getting a narrow image across the top of my lj page. Kept getting errors, and decided it was high time I got focussing on other stuff.

The spaces between lines is a pesky issue, and I need to figure out what wording to use for the coding to override "novel conundrum's" style silliness.

Ah, yes, it was suprisingly quaint to discover I was using a style template close to my heart ... newspapers/magazines ... though I'm less of a justify person than a ragged right gal.

Actually I meant the source code to the Style...not the raw HTML.

The line spacing is also set in the CSS if I recall.

yeah, i was looking at the css "coding" ...

at one point, i went to the source code page and was doing minor experimenting, but i need to know more about this whole coding world.

wasn't sure where to start copying the coding ... yes, was putting this stuff in the wrong place ... the Style mode page malarky ... and it wasn't liking any of the the first lines i picked.

sometime, when i'm in the mood to really procrastinate or have time to experiment, i'm gonna conquer this baby.

seriously in need of a good brain-flossing for such a project.

I agree with "flying blind". I love to read your entries with lines in between. I see "above" showing left of the margin in the first paragraph.
I don't care for the way it shows in your journal, but I love the way it is on friends page.

I'll have to log out to see it the way it was intended to be.
