misfitina more than anyone else will be interested in this post:

It has been announced that our art dept. will be receiving "training" on those PC Windows computers which have been sitting in their dust-embedded boxes for how many months now?

If everything goes as planned, we'll be learning how to use (some of us already know) and we'll be working on them within the next three weeks.

Sadness that the macs we have grown up with ... new versions now obsolete ... will no longer be a part of the creative art dept. process.

But this is where we're at, and we can't fight it now.

So, misfitina: Are you still interested in purchasing my harddrive, keyboard, mouse and monitor ... for ... what was it? 25 dollars? I'll do my best to get you the best monitor, but can't promise anything. We can work out the details if you're still interested.

Oooh, old computer parts for sale?

Misfitina did say she would like to purchase them MONTHS ago ... it's taken quite awhile for these babies to be setup and installed.

Silliness, really.

If misfit' doesn't want them, I'll let you know. They really are a bargain, but remember, they are several years old. Pre-OS X macs.

Ok. I don't have any Mac hardware. I'm curious, and I'm sure I could set up Yellowdog Linux or NetBSD on it.

Did I mention that all but one of my computers are about ten years old?

Wow, ten years old? That's pretty good. It's good to know you're a Linux fan.

Misfitina still wants this old klunker, so once I get it, I'm sending it off to her.

Sorry, Guy.

Ok, no worries. I was just curious because I don't have any PPC hardware right now, just intel and sun/sparc.

And, I'm not really a Linux fan. I much prefer BSD Unix (OpenBSD in particular, though FreeBSD is niiice), a lot of the imitation System-V internals in Linux are really sloppily done. The whole "only maintaining the kernel and then haphazardly retrofitting GNU utilities onto it" M.O. makes for a lot of poorly integrated Linux distributions, whereas BSD distributions include both the kernel and the "userland" (all the basic utilities and programs a Unix system tends to have), so everything behaves like it's all part of the same system.

My two cents. (And, hey, let's not write long rants on a 15 minute break.)

Hi Misfitina,

You said you wanted it months ago, so it's yours once I get it.

I believe it is $25 for everything ... but no software ... I believe you get the existing operating system, which is 8.6 ... woo-hoo.

Again, the only other problem besides the OS being old is that the monitor is bad ... there are two to possibly choose from ... the one with burned in blotches or the one that's really washed out. That one is larger and may be fixable according to our new creative director. Sounds like the latter one is best choice.
