Count your blessings

One late Saturday morning a few weeks ago, my husband and I were fast asleep.

The doorbell rang.

When we're sleeping, we usually ignore the doorbell.

For some reason, I got up and went downstairs to answer it.

It was the postman needing a signature confirmation on a letter for my mother.

I signed the card and headed back upstairs to go back to sleep.

Walking down the hallway, a large swish ka-boom came from our bedroom.

Mr. F called out, "What happened?!?!" Then he rolled over facing inward on the bed.

I arrived in the bedroom to see a 2-foot-by-3-foot hole in the ceiling where the plaster had been. The original 1922 heavy horsehair plaster was broken into large, small and dust particles on our bed right where my head and shoulders were moments prior.

Mr. F didn't even get dust on himself. We sleep on a futon, so there's minimal vibration.

We're now sleeping on the futon in our "study/entertainment" room.

Our bedroom is almost empty, awaiting our decision on how to approach repairing the plaster. Take it all down or just patch it and stabilize any potentially loose plaster in the ceiling.

Who knows what would have happened if I had still been in bed when that plaster fell.
Thank goodness, Mr. F was sleeping facing outward on the bed.

We've been counting our blessings.

Thanks, K', for the hug and the concern.

I know I don't update much.

Wish I could do a million things at once. :D

peace, K'.

Re: Wow
Yeah, I've been thinking my mom had something to do with me getting outta bed ... the odds are high on that action. Eh, my dad probably helped, though thinking of him doesn't come first ... he's been gone since 1984. My best friend, he was.

YIKES. I'm so glad you're okay. :O

Jerry's mom was on her porch not two weeks ago, when she got up to answer the phone. In that time, a giant tree branch fell and crushed the porch, again, right where she'd been. What's going on in Michigan these days??

whoa that's wild. thank goodness Jerry's mom got up.

it's weird ... not just michigan.

my brother told me that he and his wife had the same sitch as us, but reversed: he was outta bed and his wife was sleeping. the plaster crashed where he had been sleeping moments prior.

love your wispy photo ... dandelion?
