mid-life crisis, i believe

A letter to a friend I reconnected with from 20 years ago:

I've probably been putting off writing you, because I'm going through a difficult time right now and didn't want to burden you. But I feel the need to write to you and [Mrs. Z], so here you go. Please let this be between us only.

As a couple, [Mr. F] and I are doing great. I, however, am in a period of angst. I need change in a big way. Thankfully, [Mr. F] is extremely supportive. Though it's been interesting to see how the newspaper business transitions from print to internet, I'm feeling really tired of ... I guess ... being with this paper. Being in this town. Being in snow. Yes. And in cold, cloudy climate. Newspapers on the 'net sounds awesome. For goodness sakes, I've been harping at higher ups to make the move, make the move, since the internet became public. Yeah, I understand the whole ad revenue thing. Newspapers have to downsize and change dramatically. My own need for change doesn't have to do with the newspapers' need for change. Not sure what I want to do.

We're been saving more and brainstorming and looking at places to move. And attempting to de-clutter. We have a big old house, too. It's amazing how quickly we filled, then overfilled the place. I'm trying to get back to basics. We've given ourselves a year to make a decision. Of course, we're both impatient. I'm extremely impatient. Want to make a decision and act on it right now! Yet, taking the time is wise. Maybe something wild and crazy will happen before the year is up and we have to make the decision more quickly.

Going to a warm Third World country sounds appealing. Teach English or painting. [Mr. F] could design and build houses.

O.K, there you have it.

My best to you and [Mrs. Z] and your fast-growing cuties.

Yeah. Me too.

Me too.

Maybe we could move to the same Third World County and hook up?
