Recycling - an update post from the past

This  post was written Jan. 14, 2009, though I start writing it as if it were from Dec. 31, 2008. It is an update post from past events.

I stopped recycling this evening,
and feel badly about it.

We're mega-rushing to get out of the house
before the night is over.
The new owner is moving in tomorrow morning.

Being a good doobie,
I brought the recycling bin
out to the curb for pick up this coming Tuesday
It was overflowing with the rest of our paper and newspapers.
I had forgotten we placed a full bin of paper out already.
There are two overstuffed bins of paper at the curb,
and no room for glass and cans.

I go back into the house to gather up the glass and
cans. I look at them, sign and decide they are going
in the trash.

Double shit.
I am bad.
I want to help the environment, not destroy it.
But here I am throwing this stuff in the landfill pile.

This one action seems to lead to how Mr. F and I deal with recyclables while staying at our friends' apartment and now on the road.

How do people recycle when they're on the road?
You'd think I would have this issue solved before this trip.

We have with us our travel mugs and Sigg water bottle.
They are packed away six days into this trip.
O.K., I'll make sure to take 'em out at our next unpacking stop.

But what do we do with all the empty cans from the cat food?
Supposedly, our cat's spent litter is flushable, but I've always been afraid of overflowing a toilet.

This is something I need to read about.

I never thought about how to recycle cans and such while on a trip.

Sometimes you can find glass and plastic bins @ self-serve type restaurants though.

we're gonna have to work hard to find "self-serve" recycling for now.
