China Town Austin-style

Last night, Mr. F and I went with a local friend to Austin's China Town ... or is it known as China Mall?

There seem to be plenty of great restaurants, markets here, but unlike the China Towns of NYC, Chicago and San Francisco, this China town looks more like a modern-day characterless strip mall plaza with a huge parking lot in the middle.

Thankfully, my friend and photographer, Steve Noreyko, knows which restaurants are great for dining, which to avoid.
We had a most tasty meal, though our Snap Pea leaves dish was overwhelmed with garlic. For the next several days, I'll be wafting garlic essence.

So if you can get past the lack of atmosphere in the concrete plaza, the restaurants and markets are worth exploring.
