About a week ago, I read in one of the major Texas city newspapers about cities hiring a company that uses red-light cameras to catch red-light runners. This company could be 2,000 miles away from the city, yet they take care of catching the red-light runner on camera, sending out the violation notice via snail mail, accepting the payment on behalf of the city and taking a percentage of the violation fee with the city.

We received our mail this morning, and today I received my first red-light running violation.
Though the postmark was stamped for mid-March, the violation took place in mid-January.
Guess they have a huge backlog.

I foresee several red-light running violation notices in my future.
Shit.

One thing this company does that's not right:

They sent two violation notices, both postmarked the same exact day for the same exact violation.
One notice is the initial notice.
The second notice claims you haven't responded in a timely matter and now owe them a $25 late penalty on top of the violation fee.

Now remember, we received these notices today. One week after they mailed them.
The due date is April  10, 2009.
Why those little rascals.

So to all of you reading this post, beware of such shinanigans.
