One year ago today

One year ago today, the Dow Jones fell 440 points continuing the great stock market crash of 2008. Mr. F and I were on a plane headed to Denver to scout out that fair city and Albuquerque and all points in between. After months of research, we were looking at these two cities as places to relocate.

During our stop over in Minneapolis, all the televisions near us were blaring CNN and the news of the stock market's fourth day of continued free fall.

All I could think of was:
"What are we doing out here? We should be back home. The sky is falling."

Yet, I reassured myself, this particular vacation was ALL about protecting ourselves from major damage of a falling sky.

• The night before, we accepted our final offer for a local young man to purchase our house.
• For months I had been preparing our financial situation for a potential voluntary buyout offer from The GRPress.
• During the summer, we had had three garage sales. Anything left over we donated to Goodwill or The Salvation Army.
• Since mid-February I had been reading all types of career books.

What a difference a year makes.
All that preparation has paid off.
We're living outside the societal "norm," free agents to go almost anywhere, do anything.
